Angers, France – GlioCure SA, a biotechnology company specializing in neuro-oncology, announces the grant of a European formulation patent for its drug candidate GC01.1, titled “Pharmaceutical composition comprising NFL-TBS.40-63 peptide, variants or salts thereof and alanine".
This patent, invented by Paul Baldwin, Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of Pharmaceutical Development at GlioCure, and Benjamin Bouchet, Ph.D. in Pharmacy, has been granted to GlioCure as sole owner, by the European Patent Office (EPO) under patent number 4593865.
The patent covers the manufacturing process for a clinical injectable formulation of the first-in-class antitumor peptide NFL-TBS.40-63, providing protection for the corresponding drug candidate GC01.1 across 39 countries within the jurisdiction of the European Patent Office until September 2043.
Patent applications resulting from the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) extension of the original European filing are also currently under review in several countries in North America and Asia.
“This rapid grant by the EPO highlights the high quality of the formulation work carried out by Paul Baldwin and Benjamin Bouchet, and is an encouraging sign for the ongoing evaluation of related applications by other patent offices worldwide. The grant of this patent also represents a major milestone for GlioCure, as it secures the company’s R&D efforts and GC01.1’s value in Europe for potentially the next 17 years,” said Louis-Marie Bachelot, CEO of GlioCure.
